Born in Tateyama City, Chiba Prefecture in 1962. Graduated from the Department of Japanese Painting, Musashino Art University.
After graduating from the university, Koyama worked as a product designer for lighting equipment manufacturer ODELIC Co., Ltd. (formerly Ohyama Lighting Co., Ltd.). Across his approximately twenty-five years there, he engaged in the development of a large number of products. In particular, he played a key role as an expert in designing Japanese-style lighting equipment. In 2010, he left the company and in the next year, began studying under Koji Yamami, aiming to become a kaleidoscope artist. In 2013, he began his career as an independent kaleidoscope artist.
Surprisingly, he submitted his debut work to the largest kaleidoscope convention in the United States. At first, he mainly created large kaleidoscopes, receiving the People's Choice Awards at the BKS* convention highest prize at the convention on his third try in 2016. After winning this award, it was decided that his small works would be sold at a major department store, Isetan Shinjuku, immediately after his return to Japan. Since then, he has expanded several new series of products for sale.
In 2018, he launched a new business: an order and selling system of custom-made kaleidoscopes for members only. Currently, he is introducing new kaleidoscopes at independently held events for new products.
